Audio and Microphone Issues

Fix microphone permissions and audio quality before or during an observation.

Good audio is the key to a good transcript. If the audio check fails or transcription seems off, work through these.

Grant microphone permission

Elevate needs your browser's permission to use the microphone. If you're not prompted, or you blocked it earlier:

  1. Look for the microphone icon in your browser's address bar.
  2. Set Elevate to Allow for the microphone.
  3. Reload the page and try the audio check again.

"Too quiet" or "too loud"

The audio check tells you if your level is off:

  • Too quiet — move closer to the microphone, or pick a mic nearer to where the talking happens.
  • Too loud — move back a little, or lower your input level.

"No speech detected"

If the check says no speech was detected, make sure you actually spoke during the 10-second test, speak clearly, and reduce background noise.

During the observation

If audio degrades mid-lesson, your notes keep working — see If your audio or transcription fails.

Tip: An external or headset microphone placed toward the classroom usually beats a built-in laptop mic, especially in a large or noisy room. See Browser and hardware requirements.
